Some Things to Keep in Mind When Looking for New Baby Clothes

If you’re looking for new baby clothes, whether for your own pregnancy or as a gift for someone else, you may find yourself absolutely overwhelmed with the choices that are available today.  Not only are baby clothes functional, but these days you can dress up a new baby in a team uniform, as a cute and furry animal, or with any other type of outfit you can imagine - and some that you probably couldn’t!  But when looking for new baby clothes, it’s important to remember that you should never sacrifice safety for style, and never put your child or anyone else’s child in an outfit that is uncomfortable for them no matter how cute it is.

Fit is Important

Chances are you already know that children cry to express any type of unhappiness they’re feeling; they can’t tell you verbally that they’re hungry or tired or not feeling right, so they simply cry and scream.  It’s important to remember when looking for new baby clothes that if you purchase something that’s the wrong size for the child, that is too tight or that is in any way uncomfortable, all they’re going to do is cry.  They can’t tell you that the pants are too tight or that a label is making their neck itchy, so they’ll simply wail and scream until they’re comfortable again.

Most people looking for new baby clothes go by the tags that tell you how old a child should be to fit into those clothes, but never let yourself be simply limited by that label.  Some children are much bigger or smaller than the average baby of that age, and of course their body shape is different as well - some have longer legs and arms, some have wider necks, and so on.  When looking for new baby clothes keep in mind the particular baby you’re shopping for, and make sure the clothes will fit him or her comfortably; don’t simply think that because the child is six months old that he or she will automatically fit into clothes advertised for those that are six months.

Safety and Comfort

No matter how much you may fall in love with those cute little outfits you see when looking for new baby clothes, you need to keep in mind the child’s safety and comfort.  Especially when looking for new baby clothes for girls will you see decorations and embellishments on the little dresses, but of course clothes for boys will also often have buttons and patches as well. 

If you absolutely must put a baby in one of these outfits because you want to take a picture or parade the child around for everyone to see how adorable they are, make sure this is just for a few minutes while you get that shot or have everyone fawn all over the baby.  If an outfit is not safe or comfortable, the child should be changed out of it immediately.  Remember when looking for new baby clothes that you really want to stock up on the basics - cotton shirts and leggings, pajamas with feet, and so on.

Signs your baby is teething early and ways to help the pain

It’s not pleasant for parents to see their babies going through the painful process of teething. Sometimes, if your baby is teething early, they might not kick up a lot of fuss, and one day you notice a couple of little white teeth poking through their gums. But for other babies, baby teething can be much more difficult. The majority of babies start teething at around 6 months, but some babies can begin teething a lot earlier.

Symptoms of early baby teething

Symptoms can vary from baby to baby. Some babies can get very irritable as the teething process begins, as they are not used to this feeling.

A baby teething early can also be recognised if your baby is drooling excessively, as teething causes the baby to drool more. Parents have to be careful that the drool doesn’t cause the baby to develop a chin rash. Drool bibs are a key item in baby teething to prevent a chin rash.

A baby teething early can also cause the child to have cold like symptoms such as a cough or runny nose. If the fever lasts more than two days, check with a doctor to make sure your baby isn’t suffering from an illness.

Another way to notice baby teething is if the baby is gnawing and biting things or even pulling on their own ear. If the baby’s temperature is high, and the baby continues to pull on its own ear, this could indicate a potential ear infection; again always check with your doctor.

Helping a baby teething early

No parent wants to see their baby in pain during teething and it is in their nature to try and help. Over the counter medications are available to try and relieve the pain. Check with your doctor first if you have any doubts in giving your baby medication.

You could buy your baby a teething ring which you place in the refrigerator to chill. Babies then chew on this to numb the pain. Rubbing the rubber ring with cold water can also help a baby teething early; some babies are often satisfied with their parents rubbing their fingers along their gums, as this creates a feeling of calm and comfort.

Baby teething, can be a long, uncomfortable process for some babies. Paying attention to recognise a baby teething early is essential. Keep a close watch to notice symptoms which will help prepare you for forthcoming events in your babies’ wellbeing.
